YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Understanding abuse can be difficult and confusing – whether it is happening to you or someone you love.  Abuse is not simply physical harm. It is any pattern of controlling behavior — emotional, physical, financial, sexual, or verbal — it can be any or all of those.  The important thing to recognize is that it is simply this – when one person exerts power over another. It could be withholding food or financial support, threatening with custody of the children, or humiliation in public or private, or controlling how you move around in the community. When any behavior is used to control another person – this is abuse.

The first step to recognize that there is violence in your life or the life of a loved one and reaching out to get some help with understanding what you can do about it.

24/7 Help Line – 1-920-684-5770

The InCourage Helpline provides crisis intervention and support, safety planning, community information, and referrals to survivors of domestic abuse, their families, friends, and the general public. Our 24 hour Helpline opens the door to all InCourage services. At the other end of the line are staff and volunteers trained specifically in the unique situations surrounding domestic and sexual violence.

EMERGENCY SHELTER

InCourage's Emergency Shelter program offers housing, food, clothing, support and resources for survivors of domestic violence/sexual abuse and their children who are without a safe place to live because of the violence in their lives. Our emergency shelter is a communal living environment. When in shelter, InCourage provides residents different supportive services, including but not limited to, the following:

  • Legal Advocacy
  • Support and Counseling
  • Referrals to Additional Community Resources

Residents receive individual case management and assist one another through resident support groups. Additional supportive services are available for children whose parents use the shelter program who need help working through the trauma they have experienced from witnessing or being a victim of abuse.

Sexual Assault Services

InCourage provides support for victims seeking help to move from crisis to recovery.  Our trained professional staff and volunteers offer supportive services to survivors and family affected by sexual abuse, rape or incest.

Support Groups

InCourage offers a variety of  Support Groups for anyone who identifies needing support to survivors and their children of domestic violence and sexual assault. Support groups help survivors heal from the trauma of domestic abuse/sexual violence.  Confidential and free of charge.  Support groups are available for teenagers and adult survivors of sexual violence, and adult/children affected by domestic violence.  Most of our support groups are peer-based, meaning participants share and support each other. Children’s services are sometimes available at the same time as support groups so that children experiencing abuse can receive services as well.

Safety Planning

A safety plan is a practical plan – specific to you – that outlines ways to remain safe while in a relationship, while planning to leave, and/or after a victim leaves.  It is important to remember that sometimes in moments of crisis it is difficult to think things through and make decisions the same way as when you are calm. When adrenaline is kicking in, it can be hard to think clearly or make logical decisions about your safety. Having talked through a safety plan, and laying one out in advance can help you to protect yourself in those stressful moments and help make sure you understand the resources that are in our community to support you during a stressful time.

Legal Advocacy

InCourage advocacy provides support, information, advocacy and court accompaniment to victims and their families who are experiencing intimate partner violence or stalking.

 Youth Services

InCourage’s Youth Program provides family-focused crisis intervention and supportive services to children who have experienced the trauma of domestic or sexual violence in their lives.

Community Education/Prevention

Trained professionals are available to train and educate health-care professionals, law enforcement officials, members of the clergy and other faith-based leaders, community organizations, corporations, and professional associations on the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault. If you are interested in scheduling a trainer to provide information and education for your group or workplace, please call.
